Common questions asked before visiting Sefa-utaki.
How is Sefa-utaki pronounced?
It is read "Sefa-utaki," said to mean "the highest utaki." See the About Sefa-utaki page for details.
How much is admission?
Currently ¥300 for adults, ¥150 for children and ¥200 for groups. From Oct 1, 2026, fees will be revised to ¥600 for adults, ¥300 for children and ¥500 for groups. Preschoolers (under 6) and visitors with a disability certificate are free. See the Admission page for details.
Where can I buy tickets?
Please buy them at the Nanjo City Regional Products Center. Tickets cannot be purchased at the site entrance. See the Admission page for details.
How long does a visit take?
Allow 50–60 minutes in total; about 30 minutes inside the utaki. See the Access page for details.
What are the opening hours and rest days?
Hours are 9:00–18:00 from March to October, and 9:00–17:30 from November to February. The 1st–3rd days of the lunar 5th and 10th months (six days a year) are rest days, when no one may enter the utaki. See the Hours & Rest Days page for details.
What should I wear?
Walking shoes and modest dress are recommended — out of consideration for the place of prayer, and for safety on the stone paths. See the For Visitors page for details.
May I take photos?
Please keep photography inside the utaki to a minimum. Refrain from photographing people against the background of worshippers or the places of worship. Commercial photography requires prior application. See the Photography page for details.
Are guided tours available?
Yes — guided tours of about 60 minutes, with rates by group size. See the Guides page for details.
Can I enter with a wheelchair or stroller?
Because stone paths, steep slopes and stairs continue inside the utaki, wheelchairs and strollers cannot enter. A free video is available at Ganju Station Nanjo. See the Accessibility and Alternative Viewing page for details.
