Passing the place of prayer to the next generation. Our efforts to protect and hand down Sefa-utaki.
Protecting the place of prayer
Sefa-utaki is a World Heritage Site and, at the same time, a sanctuary where prayers are still offered today. To protect its quiet and its sanctity, several ongoing efforts are in place.
Rest days
To preserve the quiet of the sacred site and protect its nature, Sefa-utaki sets fixed "rest days" every year: the 1st to 3rd days of the 5th month and the 1st to 3rd days of the 10th month of the traditional lunar calendar — six days in total (the dates change each year with the lunar calendar). During these periods, no one may enter the utaki.
To the next generation
To protect the sanctuary, the innermost part of Sangui is currently closed to entry. When you visit the utaki, keep in mind that this is a place of prayer and spend your time quietly — that is the greatest force for handing this place on to the next generation.
